Applications

A practical tool for communication

Developed in 1985, continuously improved

Since the first prototype was developed by Dr Jules Hesse in 1985, the Biomecmodels jaw model has been continuously improved based on clinical experience and professional feedback. The result: a durable and practical tool for excellent patient communication and education.

Examples of applications

For patients and students

Examples of applications

  • Chewing movements and stable occlusion
  • Impaired mouth opening and closing: disk locking
  • Abnormal  movement
  • Malocclusions
  • Normal vs. abnormal head posture
  • Whiplash and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) complaints
Features

The movable upper and lower dental arches can easily demonstrate various malocclusions. An included occlusal appliance can demonstrate jaw and disk stabilization.

By adjusting the screw at the back, normal and abnormal head positions can be shown. A forward head posture, for example, may illustrate disturbed jaw-neck relations, possibly leading to local tissue overloading.

Fine coil springs represent muscles and ligaments, connecting the movable parts. The model (33 x 46 cm) can be placed on two perspex stands or wall-mounted.

Each model is accompanied by a patient instruction form. The latter sheet may be downloaded from our site and given to each patient as a hand-out with instructions.
